The baseball team finished their season last night with a 13-8 loss at Foundation Academy. The team was led by John Parisi who had two hits. Patrick Stephens had a couple of fantastic plays down the stretch at third base to give your Crusaders a chance.
The baseball team defeated Faith Christian last night 12-2 to advance to the district semi-finals against Foundation Academy. Chris Olliff picked up the win on the mound pitching 4 innings, striking out 8 and allowing just 2 runs. Brent Huber pitched the 5th inning striking out the side. Defensively, Patrick Stephens threw out 3 base stealers with an awesome display of speed and accuracy. At the plate Chris Olliff, Lucas Patrick, John Parisi, and Patrick all had multiple hits to have the top of the order rocking and rolling.
The baseball team won their final regular season game on Friday against MICS, 10-7. Chris Schmitt led the offense hitting a home run and adding a single later in the game. Brent Huber picked up the win on the mound in relief of Dominic Brignoni, who did a great job pitching into the 6th inning. Jay Vazquez and Dominic both added two hits each to help keep pace with Chris on the offensive side of the field.
The baseball team won last night against Riverbend, 19-1. Patrick Stephens set a school record, striking out 18 would be batters on his way to his first no-no. Lucas Patrick led the team with three hits and Jay Vazquez came off the bench going 2 for 2.
The baseball team lost their final district game of the regular season Friday, 11-0 to Windermere Prep. Anthony Bruder led the offense with a double. Chris Olliff stole a base for your Crusaders.
The team traveled to St. John Ocala on Monday night and fell 12-2 to the Saints. Lucas Patrick had a triple and run scored while Patrick Stephens had a single and a run scored. John Parisi had a sacrifice fly for OLA
The baseball team defeated CFCA last night 14-4 in a big district game. Leading the way for OLA was John Parisi who unleashed a 383 foot 3 run bomb over the scoreboard along with a triple. Chris Santiago was 2 for 2 with a two run inside the park homerun , and Chris Olliff woke up the lead-off spot with three hits of his own. Patrick Stephens was in control on the mound, allowing 4 hits while striking out 9.
The baseball team was pounded by Foundation on Thursday night 13-1. The team rebounded nicely on Friday with a 7-2 victory against Covenant. Chris Schmitt led the way with 3 hits and 4 rbi's. Aaron Riegelmeyer added a nice hit up the middle. Patrick Stephens returned to the mound to throw a complete game 1 hitter striking out 11 would be batters.
The baseball team fell to Windermere Prep last night 14-7. John Parisi led the offense with three triples. Patrick Stephens was excellent behind the plate, throwing out several runners and also added two extra base hits. The overall record heading into spring break is 9-3 and the team is working hard at building off of their secured conference championship.
The baseball team improved to 6-2 with a 9-5 win against Brevard HEAT last night. Jay Vazquez picked up the win on the mound for your Crusaders allowing no hits in his two innings of work. Aaron Riegelmeyer, Dominic Petrocci and Justin Van Deest each picked up their first hits of the season in the victory.
The baseball team improved to 5-2 last night with a 3-1 win over rival Faith. Brent Huber dominated on the mound, striking out five and throwing strikes all day long. Awesome effort, Brent even fielded his position excellently. The bats were dead, but Chris Olliff did come through with a hit and 2 runs scored, one off of a lazy flyball by Chris Santiago, who picked up the game winning rbi off of that sac fly.
The baseball team fell to Central Florida Christian on Friday afternoon, 3-1. Chris Olliff battled the entire day with control problems on the mound but was still able to hold the Eagles to three runs. The bats could not wake up in time for any sort of a rally. Lucas Patrick scored the lone run for your Crusaders.
The baseball team suffered their first loss of the season, falling to district favorite Foundation Academy, 4-2. Patrick Stephens pitched a complete game giving up 4 hits while striking out eleven. John Parisi had two hits and an RBI.
The baseball team was victorious on Friday afternoon, improving to 2-0 in the Mid-Florida Christian Conference, and 4-0 overall. Chris Olliff pitched three innings of no hit ball to pick up the victory on the mound. Brent Huber worked two innings in relief and did a nice job throwing strikes. Dominic Brignoni and Patrick Stephens were both 2 for 2 at the plate to lead the team to 11 hits and 19 runs.
The baseball team improved to 3-0 last night with a district victory against defending champion Geneva by a score of 20-1. John Parisi and Chris Olliff combined for five doubles on the night. All three eighth graders pitched, giving up 0 earned runs, 1 hit and striking out 9. Patrick Stephens did the bulk of the pitching picking up the win and Jay Vazquez along with Dominic Brignoni each got an innings worth of work on the mound.
The baseball team improved to 2-0 last night with a come from behind 4-3 victory against defending conference and district champion, Temple Christian. 8th grader Patrick Stephens led your Crusaders from the mound, striking out 14, while only giving up one earned run and scattering 5 hits. Offensively Lucas Patrick had 2 hits, Patrick had a double, Chris Santiago had two rbi's, and John Parisi scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
The baseball team opened their regular season with a district victory against Faith Christian, 17-5. After waking up in the second inning, your Crusaders dominated the game. Chris Olliff picked up the win and Jay Vazquez helped on the mound combining for 14 strikouts of would be Lion hitters. At the plate, John Parisi led the offense with an inside the park homerun. Anthony "Tony" Bruder collected two hits in his high school baseball debut.
April 24, 2009 -- The OLA baseball team concluded the 2009 regular season with a pair of big victories over conference opponents as five seniors said good-bye to Dominic J. Hurt Sports Complex.
Tuesday April 21 – OLA traveled to Covenant Palm Bay and picked up a 15-1 victory, clinching a runner-up finish in the conference. Patrick Stephens pitched a great game and also led the way at the plate. Anthony Campanalie was very supportive in his offensive display at the plate.
Thursday April 23 - The team wrap up the regular season against Brevard Heat with Senior Night. Dane Hurt scored four times, including the first run of the game off of a RBI single by Campanalie. Campanalie went 3-3 with 5 rbi's in the game. Lucas Patrick added 4 RBIs from his 2 triples at the plate. Hurt and David White led the base stealing with 3 each. Nick Walker picked up the complete game victory on the mound as the Crusaders concluded the regular season 10-7.

District Schedules: The Crusaders begin districts as the #4 seed on Monday April 27th against #5 seed CFCA at Blue Jacket Field in Baldwin Park. The address for Glen Ridge MS is 2900 Upper Park Rd. Orlando, 32814 if you need directions. The field is located right behind the school. Admission is $5.00 per session (day). Blue Jacket Field is the site for all district tournament games.
With a victory, the Crusaders will advance to the semifinals against #1 seed Geneva at 4pm on Tuesday April 28th. The district championship is on Thursday April 30 at 6:30pm.
OLA Baseball Team rallies to win with one strike left
April 17, 2009 – Staring at a 10-0 Mercy Rule in the 5th inning with 2 outs, 2 strikes, and 2 runners on base, sophomore Lucas Patrick singled to center field scoring 2 runs and sparking an unbelievable rally over the next 4 innings as Orlando Lutheran beat CFCA 16-13.
Patrick’s single, and 2 more runs in the inning, kept the Crusaders (8-7) in the game as they would scored 3 more runs in the top of the 6th inning to inch closer to CFCA at 10-7. The Eagles would answer the 7-run outburst and add 3 runs to their lead forcing Orlando Lutheran to make up a 13-7 deficit in the 7th inning.
The Crusaders needed more than one run to stay alive they needed 6. They got it as a result of several walks by two different CFCA pitchers and a 2-out grounder by senior Nick Walker that led to a throwing error scoring Patrick Stephens and Dane Hurt, tying the game at 13.
In the 8th inning, senior David White drove in the Crusaders’ first lead run, and Stephens brought in 2 more runs as Orlando Lutheran gave the ball to Walker in the bottom of the inning to close the game.
Walker, pitching since the 5th inning, took the mound and ended the Eagles night capping off a crazy night featuring two teams playing two different halves of baseball.
“In all my years of playing, or coaching baseball, I’ve never been a part of a game (on either side) that took such a dramatic turn,” said head coach Todd Bortz.
“After our performance the previous night (a 14-4 loss to Foundation Academy), this team could have easily laid down trailing 10-0 and quit. They didn’t…that really says something about this group of guys.”
Orlando Lutheran concludes their regular season against a pair of Mid-Florida Christian Conference opponents - Tuesday April 21st at Covenant Christian, and Thursday April 23rd home for Senior Night against Brevard HEAT.
The baseball team came out smoking in their season opener against rival Faith Christian, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead. Senior Nick Walker led your Crusaders at the plate collecting 2 hits and an RBI. As the game went on Faith chipped away at our lead, only to go on for a 9-11 victory. Seventh grader, Patrick Stephens worked hard on the mound, striking out 13 would be batters for the Lions. Thanks to all who came out in support of your team. We have two more home games this week on Thursday and Friday, at 6 and 7, respectively, so come out and show some of your school spirit.
