Thursday (March 11) baseball game vs St. John Lutheran in Ocala has been postponed due to weather.  The game will be rescheduled to Monday April 19 at 5:00pm.


Crusaders, Huber complete sweep of Faith Christian
March 9, 2010

Orlando-- Behind a complete game by freshman pitcher Brent Huber, Orlando Lutheran completed a regular season sweep of district rival Faith Christian with a 3-1 victory.

Huber struck out 5 in 7 innings and fielded his position excellently, according to Coach Todd Bortz.  Junior Chris Santiago had his second game winning rbi of the season off a sacrifice fly as OLA improved to 5-2 with a 3-2 district record.

Next up for the Crusaders this week: away vs St. John Lutheran (Ocala) on Thursday March 11 and home vs CFCA Friday March 12.


Crusader baseball team opens season with pair of home victories.
Feb 16 & 18, 2010

The varsity baseball team opened the 2010 season with home wins against district rival Faith Christian and conference favorite Temple Christian.

In the season opener, OLA scored 14 runs in the bottom of the second inning and Chris Oliff struck out 11 in four innings to as the Crusaders beat Faith Christian 17-5.  John Parisi went 2-3 with a home-run

Two days later, Patrick Stephens took the mound against (Titusville) Temple Christian. Despite trailing 3-0 through 4 innings the Crusaders stayed strong and tied the game in the 5th inning on a 2-run single by Chris Santiago. Parisi would score the winning run on a wild pitch in the 6th inning, and Stephens stuck out all 3 batters he faced in the 7th inning for the complete game. Stephens would finish the night with 14 strikeouts, 5 hits and 1 earned run in the 4-3 victory.

Next up: Tuesday (2/23) vs Geneva School @ Ward Park (Orlando), 4pm
                  Friday (2/26) vs Brevard HEAT @ Rhodes Park (Palm Bay), 4pm


Athletic Honors & Recognitions – Football & Basketball teams

Members of the 2009 Crusaders Football team have been recognized with National, State and County honors the past month.  Four seniors were selected to the 2009 Lutheran Football Coaches of America All-American Football team.  Anthony Bruder was selected to the First Team Offense, Faysal Shafaat was selected to the First Team Defense, John Parisi was selected to the First Team Offense and First Team Defense as a kick returner and defensive back, and Adam Czaplewski was selected Honorable Mention.

Shafaat, who recently committed to play football at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, was also selected to the Class 1B All-State First Team Defense and the Orlando Sentinel’s All Orange County Second Team Offense.

In basketball, the Class 1A All-District 6 Boys and Girls basketball teams were selected by the head coaches of the district last week.  Faysal Shafaat was selected the District 6 Boys MVP and only unanimous First Team Selection.  Senior Lucas Machado was selected to the Second Team. 

On the girls’ side, three Lady Crusaders basketball players were selected to All-District teams.  Sophomore Natalie Lehenbauer was selected to the First Team, senior Cecelia Lukas was selected to the Second Team, and sophomore Natalie Duda was selected to the Third Team.  The Lady Crusaders and head coach Matt Wheeler received the Team Sportsmanship award along with Foundation Academy.  It’s the second consecutive year the Lady Crusaders received the Team Sportsmanship award.

Crusader Club News:

Join your booster club!  The Crusader Club supports the athletic programs of The Orlando Lutheran Academy.  Through this club you will have the opportunity to earn your Crusader pride volunteer points!  The next regular meeting will be on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.  Consider volunteering to serve on the Crusader Club board or one of its committees.  We are looking for a Vice-President. 

Interested in serving as an advertising committee chairperson to assist with the game programs, the new full color season program, advertising signage for the field fence, or helping plan a fundraiser?  Contact Francesca Knutson or Melanie Wise and offer your assistance with our athletic boosters.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT OR PRACTICE WITHOUT A FHSAA PHYSICAL AND CONSENT FORM ON FILE.

Athletic Participation forms must be completed each year in order to compete in FHSAA sanctioned events.  The forms can be obtained by clicking below, or stopping by the administration office's front desk.  These forms are valid for one calendar year from the date of the physical.  The form MUST be turned in prior to your child attending tryouts and/or summer activities for a particular sports.  A FHSAA Consent and Liability form must also be turned in with the participation form.  It may also be obtained by clicking below.  Florida Department of Health generic forms are NOT ACCEPTABLE.  Please use the forms below and submit to the office or athletic department.

Transfers - incoming 10th, 11th or 12th graders - if you have not done so, please download the FHSAA GA-4 form, complete it, and turn it into the athletic office along with your physical and consent form before the first day of practice/tryouts to participate in activities -- download FHSAA GA-4 Form

Crusader Contracts
Crusader Contracts can be picked up in the office.  All contracts must be signed by both student-athlete and parent before competing in an athletic event.
